Cao Son : it is only 80 km from center of Lao Cai. But during 2h traveling by car, you will have many chances to stop to take photos, enjoy the panorama or have a deep breath when we follow the trail going along the mountain slope.

The French, before decided to set up Sa Pa for relaxation, they had been surveyed Cao Son. All the conditions are good, but the water resource is so rare. Cold winters, the temperature is about 5-6 degrees. You will have the opportunity to sit on the kitchen fire of ethnic minorities, enjoy special dishes and highland tea while watching fog step by step covers the houses.

Cao Son has beautiful autumn with clearing and beauty of heaven and earth. It’s the best time for you to do sightseeing and camping activities.

When spring comes, plums and peach flowers bloom everywhere and it’s the time of many festivals. You’ll want to spend more time here, drink traditional wine and join local festivals.

The culture of local people here is shown very clearly in the market-day. For the minority groups, the market is so important and opens once a week. People from various ethnic minorities gather to exchange merchandises and news. There are several minority groups in Cao Son, including Flower Hmong, Tay, Nung, Dao, Pa Di… But once you visit the market, you will immediately impress on your memory by the image of Flower Hmong girls in colorful brocade skirts. We call them Flower Hmong (Mong Hoa) because people here wear very beautiful, showy patterns, different from the Black Hmong in Sa Pa. From Cao Son, you can visit many markets: Coc Ly market (Tuesday), Cao Son market ( Wed), Lung Khau Nhin market ( Thurs), Chau market ( Friday), Pha Long market ( Sartuday), Muong Khuong market ( Sunday).

The pure space brings surprise and until now Cao Son is still rustic as it is (cao: high, son: mountain, Cao Son means: the plateau on the high mountain). The speedy wind of urbanization and tourism development still stays away from this land.
